SAMAGRA ADIVASI & MEDICINAL PLANTS DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (SAMPDA) is an NGO, it was established in the year 1998 in Kondagaon of Bastar, a tribal area in Chhattisgarh.The organization works continuously for the economic and social development of the tribals. Thousands of tribal women, are improving their economic status by contributing to organic farming.Apart from this, they are being made self-reliant by training them for the protection and promotion of animal husbandry, handicraft, and extinct medicinal plant species.The ambition of Dr. Raja Ram Tripathi, a progressive farmer and herbal scientist behind the establishment of the SAMPDA was how to make the tribals self-reliant.ShipraTripathi has brought there ambition to a new high with her skillful leadership and skill.

AIMS & OBJECTS

  • Economic, social and educational development of tribals communities.
  • Evaluation, assessment, documentation and conservation of natural resources of Chhattisgarh, the Herbal State.
  • Promotion of organic cultivation of Indian medicinal and aromatic crops. Promotion of organic cultivation and more and more tribals should be included in this work.
  • Provide a forum to researchers, scientists, farmers, social workers, common persons and all associated with various aspects of medicinal herbs.
  • Development and generation of employment opportunities for rural youths through herbal farming not only in Chhattisgarh but all over India.
  • Revitalization of local health traditions and rediscovery of less known herbs and herbal combinations.
  • To make the tribals self-reliant by training them in self-employment and advanced or organic farming.
  • Experimentation on different aspects of herbs based on farmer’s need.
  • Encouragement, motivation and technical help to regional non-governmental organizations.  
  • Promotion of herbal marketing and elimination of middle men.

OUR WORK

  • Tribals should be included in the mainstream of society.
  • They should be strengthened financially and socially.
  • In a state like Chhattisgarh, which is called the herbal state, the tribal community can be successful in the mode of herbal farming.
  • Promotion of herbal and organic farming throughout the country.
  • To provide platform free to farmers for organic and herbal farming for marketing their crops.
  • Establishment of advanced research laboratory for quality analysis of herbs.
  • Development of herbal nursery to provide different herbs at lower rates.
  • Publication of literatures on herbs in different Indian languages.
  • Creation of awareness about valuable herbs through frequent conferences, seminars, workshops, training camps, field demonstrations, field trips etc.
  • Establishment of herbal product manufacturing units with the objective of generation of employment opportunities.

REGION

SAMPDA’s focuses on advocacy and development issues among tribal communities of across te country. SAMPDA helps tribal groups address problems of dis-empowerment. Its mission is to uphold the traditional, constitutional, and human rights of the tribal people.SAMPDAfocuses primarily on projects in the tribal villages of Chhattisgar, India. SAMPDA’s activities are conducted not only in Chhattisgarh but all over the country.

IMPACT STORIES

It is said that small work leads to big changes.And this thing has proved to be hundred percent true with SAMPDA. After establishment in 1998, in small scale tribal women began to be associated with organic farming. They were trained in organic and modern farming and today more than five hundred tribal women are getting employment from agriculture. Apart from this, the SAMPDA has brought joy to the lives of these tribal artists by providing greater market to the products of traditional art and handicrafts of the tribals.
